Dear students,
There will be no more handout because the Chinese coordinator told be about your complaint about my handout, saying that the handout is too difficult. She also told me your Chinese have become worse because of my teaching style: group/pair work. So she wants me to stop the way we learn and use the original way you have used: making sentences, copying the characters, memorizing the text. For me, I can also did this work but I dont want to. But based on this situation, I have no alternatives but to take actions teaching like that way. So, we will do many grammatical translation, making sentences, and copying the characters just like before. Are you ready for this change? Yes, I am. So I have already abandoned the handout we are going to use next week, and adapted the materials from your textbook. However, we will not have handout anymore, but if you want to take the class more easily, I  still prepare the simple handout for you. You can print them at home for the best result. Hope you can learn well in this way.

九年级 学与问








十年级 勤学如春起之苗




Dear class,

This week we discussed many ways of studying in class. This topic is from the simple reading passage "勤学如春起之苗". This reading seems easy for you so we have many activities to help you master your reading skills. Did you still remember? On Monday and Tuesday, we simply learnt the story and explained the meaning of the idiom. Then we discussed the process (or you can call the "plots") in the story. On Wednesday, after we reviewed the text, we killed the text and make many meaningful and linguistically correct sentences from the reading. I also told you why I want you to give your sentences situations, right? Because this will make your sentences more complex and natural, thus you can level up your Chinese proficiency. On Thursday, we worked together to 1) revise your sentence making assignment, 2) use organizer to review the text, and at last I asked you to 3) express the meaning of "勤学如春起之苗" in your words. Finally, we ended the lesson with a speaking activity: share your way of studying. At first, we try to get the meaning of some phrases you are not familiar with, then you classify them into three categories: before the class, during the class, and after the class. Speaking in front of your classmates to share is somehow frightened, but you still made it. I am proud of you guys.  It's actually a tired and fruitful week, isn't it? The following shows the reminder for you: 

  • Revised test paper due on Monday.
  • Copy the words for 5 times on your character notebook.
  • Weekly quiz on Monday.

八年级 地球--我们的家园




Dear class,
This week we talked about the environment issue-- the earth protection. In this lesson, we learn many basic fact regarding to out earth, like the age of the earth, when our ancestors showed up on the earth. This reading is not easy because it's a little bit beyond your level. But I'm glad that most of you can comprehend and have great scores in class. Besides, we knew that JinShen lives in the snow mountains. It's a big mystery. With the wonderful performance, the  Gangnam Style dance, by Jasper and me, we ended the lesson with laughter. However, we still have a slogan project to make and an weekly quiz should be done on Monday. You can preview the test-paper on my blog.

Reminder:
1. Quiz on Monday.
2. Copy the words of this lesson for 5 times on your character notebook.
3. Kill the text: sentences making assignment due on Monday.
4. Slogan Project due on Monday. (Unique, purpose-driven, design)

Grade 9: Assignment Request


Dear class, 

The three assignment has been late for a week. Please turn your assignment to me by tomorrow, or there will be no grade for you on your classroom participation. 

Assignment 1: Copy the words of "放風箏" for 5 times on your Character Notebook.
Assignment 2: Reading comprehension questions on the handout(Answer the questions on a piece of paper with the names of you and your partner.)
Assignment 3: Sentence Pattern Exercise: on your handout page 2. (Those who attended the basketball games please ask your classmate for help if you are not able to finish it individually.)

九年級:放風箏

Dear class, 

This week we learnt the lesson called "放风筝". It recalled the memory in your childhood, right? We have discussed your experience of flying a kite. I still remembered all told me that you are able to make the kite your own. I was surprised because even I am an adult now, still cant make the kite myself. It might implied that you had a wonderful childhood with fun and smile. And such experience linked to this lesson because we review 1) the preparation of flying a kite and 2) three steps that we use when flying a kite. What's more, we learnt many Chinese idioms from this lesson like "阳光明媚", "精心制作"and "五颜六色" in the reading. This phrased are highly recommended to use in your assignment when you would like to express the situations. Besides, we reviewed many sentence pattern in class so that "拉美" would be glad because "一郎" can use Chinese pattern "多么+ adj." to describe the beauty of his girlfriend. Of course, I am still worried about those who didn't hand in your three assignments and  lose your handout. U can see the link above which the handout of this lesson could be read, reviewed and printed. Hope this can help you learn Chinese.

Dear class, 
This week we talked about a Chinese idiom story called "一饭千金". In the beginning, I ask you to focus on the idiom itself, trying to get the meaning itself. Then while you are reading, make sure wether the meaning in the context is correct. This process/reading skill will help you read more and efficiently. Aside from the article, we have discussed some questions related to the article to learn the context and express what you will feel and do when someone help you. In the end of the lesson, I ask Li lao shi for help because I went out for my VISA. In that class, you tried to transform the written form into the scripts. This will offer you a real speech experience to retell the story. Hope all of you can review this class. Dont forget we are goin to have a test next Monday. See you then.

Hello, my dear students,

We have had the Chinese class for more than six weeks, and I fount that there are some problems about your speaking and listening ability. This is due to the materials that you used didn't provide you the conversation practice and skills so that speaking fluently could be more challenging. In view of this reason, I try to think of ways to learn speaking and listening well, like the listening skills we learnt in grade ten. Besides, every lesson I always ask you some questions about the text because it's a wonderful way to monitor your comprehension as well as oral skills.

The poster(华语每日一句) near the office are highly recommended for beginners and those who are willing to improve the speaking. I will also add this part in my teaching to check if you are able to handle the basic conversation. Hope this will help you learn Chinese.

慧珠是一位羽毛球运动员,她今年十五岁。她非常喜欢羽毛球,因为她觉得羽毛球是一个有挑战性的运动,为了改进羽毛球的技巧,她每天一直练习。(当)她年轻的时候,她告诉他的爸爸妈妈他有一天想参加奥运。她非常具有运动风度也非常积极。二十五岁的时候,她参加了2012年的奥运会。她代表菲律宾获得金牌。她赢了,她很高兴,因为他实现了他的梦想。
